Volunteer Opportunities

- The UnityGuard: Minority Missing Persons Support Initiative aims to bridge the gap between minority communities and law enforcement agencies when a minority individual is reported missing. This program will provide trained advocates who will work alongside law enforcement to assist and support families in these challenging situations. The advocates will offer cultural sensitivity, emotional support, and help facilitate communication between the family members and the authorities, ensuring that the unique needs of minority families are understood and addressed effectively. By fostering collaboration and understanding between all parties involved, UnityGuard seeks to enhance response efforts, improve outcomes, and ultimately help bring missing individuals safely back home.

Criteria for At-Risk Youth Volunteers in a Remote Setting
- Age Requirements:
- Background Check:
- Experience:
- Preferably have experience or training in child welfare, psychology, social work, or a related field.
- Experience with crisis intervention or as a first responder is a plus.
- Training:
- Commitment:
- A minimum commitment period, such as 6 months, to ensure stability for the youth.
- Availability to volunteer for a set number of hours each week.
- Communication Skills:
- Technology Proficiency:
- Must be comfortable using remote communication tools and platforms.
- Ability to maintain clear and consistent communication with program coordinators and other volunteers.
- Risk Management:
- Understanding of risk management practices and adherence to safety protocols.
- Ability to identify and report any signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- Cultural Competency:
- Supportive Nature:
- A supportive and non-judgmental approach to encourage trust and openness from the youth.
- Willingness to serve as a positive role model and mentor.
- Flexibility:
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and the unique needs of each child or youth.
- Self-Care:
- Recognition of the importance of self-care when dealing with potentially stressful situations.
- Reference Check:
- Provide professional or academic references to vouch for character and reliability.
- Personal Qualities:
- Patience, resilience, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of at-risk youth.
